I stared at it for the longest time envisioning our solar system, hand-painted and all spiffed up. It's got some "not-necessarily-scaled-to-size" issues, but all-in-all I'm in love with it. It's now found a happy home, above the pool nestled in between the sage and lantana.

I don't want to brag or anything...but I'm fairly certain Julie and I (and our whole family at this point) are really good at grossing people out with fun, wacky science things. So then of course Julie put those skillz to good use and is working on her third book, 101 Ways to Gross Out Your Friends! We have to test each of the experiments from the book so things get pretty weird around here...lots of bugs, fake vomit, and thankfully latex maggots. This has been a journey in exploring the weird but hey! Sure is fun! :)

We traveled to Nashville for the NSTA conference there and it was a great success! We had so much fun meeting all the brilliant teachers there and sharing our geeky goods with them! We can't wait for an excuse to go back. #sggoestonashville

After Nashville we made our way to visit family in Southern Mississippi, and while we were there, we got to tour the Michoud Assembly Facility! My Uncle Patrick was kind enough to show us around and it's safe to say, it was awesome. We also got to see parts of Orion and the SLS and hear all about the progress and work being done on it to make it kind of the coolest thing ever. Julie was in nerd heaven! Thanks again, Pat!

It allows us to embrace the strange and unknown, to question and doubt things we don't understand. It's a celebration of all of those things! Who wouldn't love science for that? Being smart is cool and gives you a warm, squishy feeling inside to know that you are part of the joy of such an inclusive field! Sure, there are some who don't necessarily agree with that but ya know, writing Periodic Thoughts, reinvigorated our love for science and consequently, art since the two are linked.
